Oscar Injustices II

1942 Does anyone remember how green is my valley? This movie won best picture and best direction. Both oscars should have gone to Orson Welles’ citizen Kane.

1961 Best director goes to Billy Wilder for the apartment it should have gone to Alfred Hitchcock for his amazing psycho.

1979 Best picture and best director goes to Kramer vs Kramer it is a good movie but the oscar should have gone to Francis Ford Coppola (apocalypse now).

1981 Stanley Kubrick’s the shining was not even nominated for any oscar this year. Best picture and best direction go to ordinary people they should have gone to Martin Scorsese (raging bull).

1989 Best actress in a leading role goes to Jodie Foster, it should have gone to Sigourney Weaver (gorillas in the mist). Weaver has been consistently ignored or underprivileged by the academy.

1990 Ok this is unbelievable best picture goes to driving Miss Daisy, it should have gone to Noel Pearson and my left foot.

1991 Dances with the wolves is not a bad film and Kevin Costner won the best director filming it but the oscar should have gone to Martin Scorsese and the god fellas or at least to Coppola for god father III.

1994 Best picture goes to Schindler’s list it should have gone to in the name of the father (obsession with holocaust movies led Hollywood to major oscar injustices). The same year first male leading role goes to Tom Hanks and Philadelphia, ok this is not a big one but I still think that Daniel Day Lewis (in the name of the father) was the one that deserved it more.

1997 Best direction goes to Antony Minghella and the English patient it should have gone to Joel Coen for Fargo.

1999 Best direction goes to Steven Spielberg (saving Private Ryan), it is a good movie but I strongly believe that Terrence Malick deserved the Oscar more than Spielberg for his thin red line.

2000 Why Hilary Swank won an oscar (boys don’t cry), it should have gone to Annete Bening (American beauty).

2002 Why Denzel Washington in training day won the first leading role oscar this year? Although I am not a big fan of his acting skills it should have gone to Russell Crowe (a beautiful mind) or to Sean Penn (I am Sam). The same year David Lynch (Mulholland drive) loses the best direction battle against Ron Howard (a beautiful mind).

2010 Best achievement in directing to Kathryn Bigelow (the hurt locker), Quentin Tarantino and his inglourious basterds get nothing. The hurt locker didn’t worth even to be between the nominees.

2010 Best performance by an actress in a leading role goes to Sandra Bullock she was competing against Meryl Streep (Julie and Julia), Helen Mirren (the last station), Carey Mulligan (an education), Gabourey Sidibe (precious). No more comments for this one!

2011 Colin Firth wins the first leading role oscar for his performance in King’s speech the golden statue should have gone to Jeff Bridges (true grit) or to Javier Bardem (biutiful).

And last but not least when Leondardo Di Caprio will finally get to hold the little golden statue? Nominated four times and lost all four of them!
